✦ Episode 1: A World Without Cocoon.

Oh my god, this memory is so long. It is long in terms of the time remembered, which includes the three years of living on Pulse, as well as how many videos are included with this write-up. It does not include Serah breaking down on the plain, because that is included in another memory. Really, this chapter is simply dense with exposition and setting up the plot, so there is a lot that gets touched on! The highlights include:
● Serah has a dream about Lightning, Caius, and Noel in Valhalla. It has been alluded to, even shown albeit distorted, in previous memories. Still, it is the second vision that Serah has ever had. The first would be the seeing Lightning again as part of the true history.
● Her third vision also appears which has her experiencing a completely separate reality. She walks around what is later revealed to be her town in the future. Again, this is the second time that this has happened.
● Noel finally makes his grand appearance and is a complete contradiction to everything that Serah has known for the past three years! He says that he has seen Lightning, and that she is alive rather than being part of the crystal pillar. More than that, he pushes her to explain her side and gives her the means to do something about the situation.
● On those three years, Snow left to find Lightning, knowing how strongly Serah felt about not having her sister around as well as showing his belief in Serah's vision of what was. Lebreau, Gadot, Maqui, and Yuj got Serah a cat to try to cheer her up, but Lebreau also shows the strong undercurrent of everyone wanting her to get over it. Gadot's hostile response to what is thought to be the fantasy of Lightning being alive confirms that everyone really doesn't give much credit to anything Serah has to say on the issue. So, in this sort of situation, surrounded by people that do support and love her while also frustrated with her behavior, Serah spent three years very much on her own.
● Also, Serah is revealed to be a strict teacher, like Lightning, and holds a lot of sway over her kids. Everyone is shocked by this turn of events.
● Serah decides to trust in Noel, and becomes active in moving towards her own dream of having her family back together. While it is a very large leap of faith, she still does it, even against the strong reservations of the NORA group.
As far as effects go, it does confirm the slow shift Serah has made from sharing information about herself to not sharing much at all. In Aather, she has told probably five people that she is engaged despite having an excessively large group of friends. Like with the NORA group, that doesn't mean that they love her less, nor does she love them less, but certain people are meant to hear certain things while others aren't. In that same thread, she doesn't tell Noel that she is engaged to Snow until they run into him, even when asked about him. So, she has always been rather shy to share.
It also confirms her desire to have a hand in creating her own future, because she spent three years being "pushed around" by what everyone else wanted, and she didn't enjoy a second of it. As sad as some of the events that she comes to face are, the other option was even worse. Lightning is simply that important to Serah, no argument. This memory also proves without a doubt that Noel is amazing. He is a perfect compliment to what Serah needs in another person at this stage in her life, even when he struggles to catch onto her speed at the outset of their relationship.
