awww vince <3 hooboy THIS IS GOING TO BE DIFFICULT (mostly because I don't quite get it either but) let me try...
okay so kamui started off with nothing except the memory that people are trying to kill him and obviously that is bad. so he was angry and terrified when he arrived and also, DRAGON. He doesn't really have strong impressions of that first day because...it was a lot of people and there was a monster and a dragon and everyone might be trying to kill him and he can't remember jack shit... But he does remember that Vincent used Common Sense on him and that he was very comfortable with the dragon, which helped him a surprising amount get over how uncomfortable he is with Obsidian.
But then as he settled, he grew into putting his trust in Iolite (+fuuma) since they're what surrounds him and that's...good. comforting. what he knows. And of Iolite, he's most comfortable with Neji and Vincent-Obsidian (THEY'RE KIND OF A UNIT OKAY) because they seem to be the least...idk how to put it. They don't really make a big deal out of him being new(ish) and they're pretty stable existences, which is what he needs. Steady, I guess, is the word I'm looking for. That's what keeps Kamui most comfortable, so he tends to gravitate towards them. He does enjoy Spitfire and Jaina's enthusiasm and appreciates their care and how they seem to, almost?, make an effort to include him and know how he's been doing and helping him, but they can be too...happy? for him.
And then with Mother's game, Vincent was, again, a steady influence and a comforting presence and was just always calm, which helped keep Kamui calm. And, honestly? Kamui thinks Vincent was more than kind to do what he did during the game, since...his own ideas were a whole lot more violent. So that made Kamui respect Vincent even more. And also Vincent didn't really make a big deal out of his little breakdown when he remembered his mom dying, so. That's also a plus, since someone else being emotional would've just fed into his own and he prefers being calm since the only extreme emotions he really remembers feeling (after growing up) are negative ones: anger and fear, primarily, along with adrenaline and a strong desire to hurt someone.
I think Kamui is afraid of himself, in some ways. Huh. I DIDN'T THINK OF THAT BEFORE.
